What is the best coffee in Hoi An?
ReMotion Coffee at 28 Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai has the best river views — 55,000 VND for cà phê sữa đá, open 7am–10pm. The Roastery at 47 Nguyễn Thái Học serves stone-ground Quảng Nam beans — 45,000 VND. For traditional phin filter: Faifo Coffee (130 Trần Phú) — 40,000 VND, old town views. All three are legitimate — choose based on atmosphere.
Hoi An’s coffee scene
Hoi An is not a coffee city like Saigon or Hanoi. There are no apartment cafes, no third-wave roasters in alleys. What Hoi An has: river-view terraces and old town rooftops.
The coffee is fine. The views are the point.
The three reliable spots
ReMotion Coffee — 28 Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai
Hours: 7am–10pm Price: 55,000 VND (cà phê sữa đá) Vibe: Modern, river view, AC + outdoor seating
ReMotion sits directly on the Thu Bồn River. The second-floor terrace has uninterrupted views of the water and fishing boats. The coffee is solid — medium roast, balanced, not bitter.
The cà phê sữa đá arrives with the phin filter still on top — you wait 10 minutes for the drip, then stir and pour over ice.
Getting there: Cross the bridge from the old town, turn left onto Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai. The cafe is 200 meters down on the right — glass building with river views.
The Roastery — 47 Nguyễn Thái Học
Hours: 6:30am–9pm Price: 45,000 VND (stone-ground black coffee) Vibe: Serious coffee, roasting on-site, minimal decor
The Roastery is for people who care about the bean. They roast Quảng Nam province coffee on-site — small batches, stone-ground. The flavor is earthy, less acidic than Đà Lạt coffee.
The space is minimal: concrete floors, metal chairs, the smell of roasting. No river view. No AC. Just coffee.
Getting there: Nguyễn Thái Học runs parallel to the river. From the Japanese Bridge, walk south 300 meters.
Faifo Coffee — 130 Trần Phú
Hours: 7am–9pm Price: 40,000 VND (phin filter coffee) Vibe: Old town rooftop, heritage building, tourist crowd
Faifo is on the second floor of a heritage building on Trần Phú — the main drag. The rooftop terrace overlooks the old town rooftops and the Thu Bồn River in the distance.
The coffee is standard — dark roast, phin filter, 15-minute drip. You’re paying for the view, not the bean.
Getting there: 130 Trần Phú is on the main street — look for the yellow building with the green sign.
