Where should I stay in Phu Yen?
Two practical options: central Tuy Hoa (near the market, train station, fishing pier — best base for seeing the full province) or Bai Xep village homestay (small fishing village 25km north, beach atmosphere, close to Ganh Da Dia but far from Tuy Hoa's food). Central Tuy Hoa is the better base unless you specifically want the village experience. No large beach resorts exist in Phu Yen.
Phu Yen has no hotel chains, no beach resort complexes, and no hospitality infrastructure aimed specifically at international travelers. This is part of its character. It also means choices are straightforward.
Central Tuy Hoa (recommended base)
The city center — within walking distance of the main market (Cho Tuy Hoa), the train station, and the Dong Tac fishing pier — is the most practical base.
Why central Tuy Hoa works:
- Motorbike rentals available from your guesthouse
- Morning market food (bun sua, banh canh) within walking distance
- Both north and south day loops accessible
- Train station for arrivals and departures
- Grab available for short city trips
- Evening street food on Tran Hung Dao without needing a vehicle
Budget guesthouses (150,000–300,000 VND/night): Numerous small guesthouses around the train station area and central streets. Basic rooms, functional. Ask to see the room before committing — quality varies.
Mid-range hotels (400,000–800,000 VND/night): Several 2–3 star hotels in the center and along the coast road. A few have rooms facing the Da Rang River, which gives better views than looking at a street.
Bai Xep fishing village
A small fishing village in An My commune, about 25km north of Tuy Hoa city. The village has a handful of homestays that cater to visitors — simple rooms, seafood cooked by the host family, beach access.
Why Bai Xep works:
- Beach atmosphere with a working fishing village
- Close to Ganh Da Dia (15–20 minutes north) and Dam O Loan
- Quieter and slower than Tuy Hoa
- The village from the 2015 film Yellow Flowers on Green Grass
Limitation: You’re 25km from Tuy Hoa’s food and market. For dinner, you eat what the homestay provides or ride into town. The southern loop (Mui Dien, Vung Ro) is a longer ride from here.
Cost: 200,000–400,000 VND/night for a basic homestay room.
What doesn’t exist in Phu Yen
No large resort hotels. No luxury beach complexes. No international hotel brands. The ceiling for accommodation here is a comfortable mid-range city hotel — which is fine for the kind of trip Phu Yen suits.
If you need resort infrastructure, Nha Trang (2 hours south) has it.
