How do I get around Phu Yen without a car?
No public transport connects Phu Yen's sights. A motorbike is standard — 100,000–150,000 VND/day in Tuy Hoa. Non-riders: hire a motorbike taxi driver for the day (500,000–800,000 VND, negotiate first), or rent a car with driver (~1,000,000–1,500,000 VND/day). Grab works in Tuy Hoa city but not for long tourist runs.
The honest picture of transport in Phu Yen: the attractions are spread across the province, the roads between them are good, and there is no public transport connecting them. A motorbike is how you see the province. This is not a problem if you ride. If you don’t, it’s a planning item that needs a solution before you arrive.
The motorbike reality
Ganh Da Dia is 40km north of Tuy Hoa. Mui Dien is 25km south. Hon Yen is 50km north. Dam O Loan is 22km north. To combine any two or three of these in a day, you’re covering 80–150 kilometers of road. Local buses don’t serve any of these points — the bus network connects towns, not attractions.
A motorbike rental in Tuy Hoa costs 100,000–150,000 VND per day (see the separate question on renting). The roads are good. If you can ride a motorbike, this is straightforward.
Options without a motorbike
Hire a xe om driver for the day
A xe om (motorbike taxi) driver will take you pillion for a full day covering your chosen attractions. The standard rate is 500,000–800,000 VND for the day — negotiate the price and route in advance, not at the end. Your guesthouse host can usually find a reliable driver or point you to someone they know. The driver will wait at each stop while you explore.
This is the most common solution for domestic tourists who don’t ride. The driver knows the local roads, can suggest lesser-known stops, and handles navigation.
Rent a car with driver
More expensive but air-conditioned and comfortable for multiple people. Arrange through your guesthouse or hotel: typically 1,000,000–1,500,000 VND for a full day. The price covers a driver and a 4–7 seat vehicle. Worth calculating per person if you’re traveling in a group.
Grab for city use
Grab operates in Tuy Hoa for trips within the city — between your hotel, the market, the train station, and Bai Tram beach. Not useful for driving to attractions 30–50km away, but fine for short city trips.
Organized day tour from Nha Trang
If you’re based in Nha Trang, some tour operators run day trips to Ganh Da Dia. These arrive with a group, spend 45 minutes at the formation, and return. Efficient but removes the freedom to explore at your own pace.
Within Tuy Hoa city
Tuy Hoa is compact — the city center, the market, Bai Tram beach, and Thap Nhan tower are all within reasonable walking distance of each other. For central city travel, walking or a short Grab ride is sufficient.
