How do I get to Phu Yen?
Train is the most practical option for most travelers: Tuy Hoa station sits on the North-South railway line. From Nha Trang: 2 hours (80,000–160,000 VND). From Quy Nhon (Dieu Tri station): 1.5 hours. From Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City: fly to Tuy Hoa Airport (TBB) — as of 2026, Vietnam Airlines is the only carrier, with daily flights from both cities.
Phu Yen sits on National Highway 1A and the North-South railway between Nha Trang (south) and Quy Nhon (north). Getting there is straightforward from either direction.
By train (recommended for most travelers)
Tuy Hoa has a railway station on the North-South line. Most express trains (SE and TN series) stop here, though not all — confirm your specific train stops at Tuy Hoa before booking.
From Nha Trang:
- Duration: ~2 hours
- Cost: 80,000–160,000 VND (hard seat to soft seat)
- Frequency: 4–6 trains per day
- Scenic note: the train passes through Deo Ca tunnel and skirts Vung Ro Bay
From Quy Nhon (Dieu Tri station):
- Duration: ~1.5 hours
- Cost: 50,000–120,000 VND
- Note: Dieu Tri station is 10km outside Quy Nhon city — budget 15–20 minutes to reach it
From Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City:
- Duration: 20 hours (Hanoi) or 10 hours (HCMC) by train — flying is better from these cities
Book via Vietnam Railways app or website. During national holidays, trains fill quickly.
By plane
Tuy Hoa Airport (IATA: TBB, also called Dong Tac Airport):
- Location: 5km east of Tuy Hoa city center
- Airport to city: 50,000–80,000 VND by Grab or taxi
As of April 2026: Vietnam Airlines is the only carrier to TBB. Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways have suspended their TBB routes. Check the Vietnam Airlines website for current schedules.
- From Hanoi: ~7 flights/week, 1h45 flight time
- From Ho Chi Minh City: ~5 flights/week, 1h10 flight time
- No international flights
By bus
Buses from Nha Trang (Ben Xe Phia Bac, north station) and Quy Nhon bus station run throughout the day. Cost: 80,000–150,000 VND depending on origin. Slightly slower than the train and less comfortable for this route.
By motorbike or car
Highway 1A provides direct access from both south (Nha Trang, 130km) and north (Quy Nhon, 95km). The route is well-maintained. The Deo Ca pass section between Nha Trang and Phu Yen is scenic but has curves — not difficult for experienced riders.
